The county Ore Mountains, with Annaberg-Buchholz as its district town, is the one with the highest population within the federal state of Saxony. The town of Oberwiesenthal am Fichtelberg is the highest in Germany. The Fichtelberg is best-known for its ski-resorts. The county has gained economic relevance through its mining industry which had been an important factor for centuries. The region is well-known for its "Ore Mountains wooden craftsmanship" , which is based on traditional handicraft technology und has helped the Ore Mountains gaining international prominence . Especially around Christmas time the town of Seiffen with its toy village and numerous Christmas markets in the region are worth a visit.
